T114DVD French Rails DVD (1984)
T114DVD
Interesting and moving documentary produced by the French National Railways, (S.N.C.F.), spanning the old and the modern in French rails operations. Of highly artistic value, this program is actually made up of three separate films: 'Routes D'acier' (Steel Rails) is classic archived black and white footage of the extraordinary steam run of the Paris- Marseille PLM line, including a look at locomotives, stations, servicing shops, coaling operations, turntable action, old coaches and lots of nostalgic runbys. The second film, '231-D735', is a superb study of the men and the vintage steam locomotives of the 1930s and 1940s, and the pride of the fleet 231-D735 steam Pacific engine. Remarkable and nostalgic footage, always from the engineer's point of view, takes us in the cab, operating at the turntable, on high speed runs and manouvering in the yards. 'Voie Ferree Pour TGV' is the third but contemporary film of the program. Here we get technical and historical background on the high speed Paris-Lyon Train Grande Vitesse, with lots of runbys and description of the trunk line construction. Also included in this video cassette are three award winning SNCF French television commercials used in the advertising campaigns of the late 1970s. This program won the Oscar Roven (1968), the Grand Prix of Vienna (1968), the excellence Award (1969) and the Gold Medal of Venice (1969). French, 60 MN Black and White and color. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
