T122DVD The Brienz-Rothorn Bahn (1994) DVD
T122DVD
Rising from the glittering waters of the Brienzersee lake in the Berner Oberland, is the picturesque resort village of Brienz, splendidly blending traditional and contemporary Swiss culture, architecture and lifestyles. Adjacent the lake shores where still today the marvelous Loetschberg paddle steamer ship docks during the warm tourist seasons, are located both the railway stations of the SBB Lucerne-Interlaken line as well as the tiny terminus of the Brienz- Rothorn Bahn narrow gauge line. Resembling a fascinating giant model rail system, the BRB railway is truely a trip into yesteryear, with old rack-gear steam locomotives pushing vintage open-air coaches up the steep grades to the summit of the Rothorn mountain. A journey to the top of the Rothorn at 7,700 feet above sea level is a unique and unforgettable experience. Not just on account of the rack railway, which is the only one of its kind in Switzerland to be operated by steam locomotives, but also owing to the exceptional beauty of the scenery it traverses. The ascent, lasting about an hour, starts from the Brienz terminus amid peaceful forests, lush pastures and typical Alpine fauna and flora, and culminates in a mountain panorama of breathtaking grandeur. This program offers a comprehensive look at this incredible railway, with plenty of steam and diesel activity, fascinating line film shots, as well as a complete and unique ride to the Rothorn mountain. English, 50 MN full color. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
