T117DVD Bern-Loetschberg-Simplon cab ride (1992) DVD
T117DVD
During autumn of 1992 the Swiss segment between Brig and Bern of the scenic railway journey of the prestigious Eurocity #90 "Vaubam" was recorded aboard the control cabin of a classic maroon Re4/4 electric locomotive belonging to the famed BLS railway. Accompanying the crew was Herr Peter Senn of the Loetschbergbahn' s Marketing department, an experienced and knowledgeable guide whose English commentary truely helps the viewer acquire a better understanding of this historically and visually rich Alpine railway. From medioeval Brig our EC90 express begins an assault on the steep 'Sudrampe" above the Rhone valley where the railway quickly gains elevation in an endless serpentine through tunnels and by way of ambitious viaducts. At Goppenstein the 14.6 Km. Loetschberg tunnel is entered, leading to the resort of Kandersteg. Easing the vertiginous descent to the Kandertal valley, a set of reversing loops at Blausee switches the railway's direction several times and takes our train to the scenically delightful valley hilighted by the rustic shades of the autumn forests. Continuing to Spitz, our Eurocity then flanks the shores of the picturesque Thunersee lake finally arriving at historic Thun and further on to the Swiss capital of Bern. The program presents a near real-time engineer's viewpoint, with a maximum of data and interesting facts as provided by the BLS official. English, 80 MN full color. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
