T126DVD The Harz Steam Railways Vol 2 (1996) DVD
T126DVD
Second of a two-part program on the German Harzer Schmalspur Bahnen all-steam railway network, this volume focuses on the remaining lines comprising the eastern section of this fascinating railway. Featuring powerful and intriguing black and red steamers from a bygone era of European railways in true storybook settings of romantic mountain valleys, meadows and medioeval villages, the HSB has recently become one of the most sought-after attractions of the reunified nation of Germany. Almost run into extinction during the time of the East German Republic, the HSB network has since been restored to its splendor and full activity not just for occasional runs for region tourists but for local villagers in true regional traffic as well. The eastern section of the Harzer railways begins at the important junction of Eisferder Talhmule where it joins the Harzquerbahn line to Wernigerode, and heads eastwards within remote and pristine forests to reach Steige and Hasselfelde. Continuing to the east, the railway follows a twisting course in absolutely picturesque settings of medioeval villages and colorful hills as it links Strassberg and another important junction at Alexisbad. From here two separate spur lines run in opposite directions north-south to reach the splendid historic cities of Gernrode and Harzgerode repectively. As with the first volume on the HSB, this program features in high detail the intricate course with wonderful action and commentary. Of special interest, remarkable jubilee festivities featuring turn of the century steam locomotives and rolling stock in film sequences stretching from Gernrode to Strassberg hilight this fascinating and artistic program also complete with detailed maps, commentary and more. English, 60 MN full color. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
