The Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon Railway line was opened in 1913 as an alternative to the famous Gotthard route. From the outset, the route was designed for double track although only single track was laid initially. The tunnel through the Lötschberg, however was built and operated as double track from its opening. Modern concrete bridges are "grafted" onto the original stone structures to provide the trackbed for the second line. The Kander bridge at the bottom of the old Tellenburg ruin is an example of such a combination. A vast variety of trains will pass. Locos of the SBB and BLS combine to haul heavy freight trains while passenger trains, some lengthy, climb the gradient.Camera locations are provided by an onscreen map and marked with an "X". The recordings were made in May and August 1997 and in July 2000 and January 2001 with a digital camera. Running time: approximately 50 minutes. REOS production. NTSC USA/CANADA/JAPAN standard.
